Wyoming Coordinator / Public Health

Canyon Hardesty is the director of community education and training at the Wyoming Institute for Disabilities. Canyon joined the faculty at WIND in September of 2013, and she currently oversees training and technical assistance programs related to health, education, early intervention and assistive technology. Specifically, Canyon is the director of the Wyoming Telehealth Network and provides oversight for national and international partnerships for Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) networks in health, education and family and community supports. Her background and training are in healthcare ethics and public health, and she has a passion for rural health and access to healthcare through innovation and professional development.

Prior to joining WIND, Canyon worked at the Wyoming Department of Health for seven years, focusing on increased access to core public health services in communities throughout Wyoming. She has experience in grant administration and data-driven, evidence-based, and best-practice community program development. Canyon’s specific interests lie in population health, policy development, leadership and systems change.

Canyon earned a master’s degree in Health Care Ethics from Creighton University, and a master’s degree in Kinesiology and Health from the University of Wyoming and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in public health leadership (DrPH) from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
