Family Directed Clinic

The URLEND seminar on April 4 was a Parent Guided Clinic. This experience was an interdisciplinary activity for trainees and discipline coordinators to provide information to the parents of a child with a disability in regards to a list of parent generated questions. The family involved in this clinic lives in Minot, North Dakota. So a trainee from North Dakota, Kelly Drevecky, was the facilitator with assistance in coordinating the clinic from the regional coordinator. The list of questions was circulated 3 weeks prior and trainees and faculty with expertise in the topics volunteered to participate and posed follow-up questions to the parents. Kelly followed up with Paula to get the additional information.

The clinic began at 12:00 and there were team members in Logan and Salt Lake City, Utah; Moscow, Idaho; and Missoula, Montana. The facilitator kept the discussion focused on each concern until the parents felt they had sufficient information or an answer to their question. All team members share information, regardless of individual disciplines, as the parents provide direction and follow-up for the discussion.

Kevin and I would like to thank all the LEND trainees and faculty who participated in the parent-directed clinic for our family. You all were so gracious to give of your time and expertise. We are overwhelmed with the breadth of knowledge and kindness you have shown to us. We are so excited, and rejuvenated, to go forth with this new information!
